ARCHIVED
This page is archived. It no longer pertains. This was posted when Ruth lived in the house and winterized it when she left for the winter every year. Now that Jan and Dave live there year around, these instructions are no longer needed.
WINTERIZING - OPENING - CLOSING
Winterized
- assume everything is winterized (which means it has anti-freeze in it, plus other stuff)
- don't use anything until you determine whether it's been de-winterized
- this includes:
- all watercraft (including ski-doos; boat)
- bathrooms
- dishwasher
- de-arm the alarm system -- code is "XXXX" -- call Jan or Serena for the code
- open main water valve inside the crawl space north of the garage
- turn on water heater -- circuit breaker at bottom of electrical panel in garage
- open taps to start water running
- alarm
- flip water heater circuit breaker
- turn water valve to off
- unplug all appliances
- change bedding
- close drapes upstairs
- turn thermostats to 55 degrees
- lock door upstairs
- clean out fridge / pantry
- put notes on new things that have been accomplished or changed
- one glass of softened water has less salt in it than a glass of milk
- in other words, it's safe to drink the water regardless of what Jan tells you
