Memorabilia Rules

This page will be archived, but probably not updated.

After Ruth moved from her "summer home" (2013?) and before Jan and Dave bought the "Montana house" (2021), the house was often the site for Oksol family reunions. During these family reunions, the siblings thought of ways to keep the house in the "Carl and Ruth" tradition.

Those plans are kept here, archived, but obviously after Dave and Jan bought the house, things will change.

This page will be updated as I learn more from Jan and Dave.

Rule #1:

Do not throw anything out. Do not take anything. Anything that Jan, Karla, and Kathy wanted to throw away or give away has already been thrown away or given away.

Rule #2: see rule #1.

Going forward: to what extent do we want to maintain the Flessner / Ruth Oksol "heritage" at the house (think "museum")? For example:

  • Ekke's paint-by-number paintings
  • the very, very valuable Redlin paintings
  • the cookbooks
  • the glassware
Bruce's thoughts on memorabilia:
  • no interest in the Redlin paintings; don't give any away unless someone wants to hang them at their house; if at the lake house, hang two and rotate the four
  • save all Ekke's paintings; hang a couple; rotate
  • glassware: plenty of shelf-space with glass doors -- place all glassware for showing/storage
  • inventory: if you "take" / "borrow" something to take back to your own home, note the item on the list in the kitchen
